Dear members of Ruhr-Universität Bochum,

In the summer semester 2020, the elections for the Senate and the faculty councils will be taking place. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the RUB election committee and the Rectorate have decided to conduct them by postal vote only. Due to the cyber attack [] on the RUB’s IT systems, it is no longer possible to hold the election within the originally planned period. The current election procedure is therefore terminated and will be restarted; the new election date is 14 July 2020.

All eligible voters at RUB have the opportunity to request postal ballots by 3 July 2020, 12 noon, using the following online postal vote form. Please note that you must also register anew if you have already registered on the previous form, as it cannot be guaranteed that all data have been submitted in full:

The application is necessary to ensure that the postal ballots are sent to your current postal address and that all voters receive them.

All members of the university are eligible to vote according to § 9 Higher Education Act of NRW. Eligible voters may only vote if they are listed in the electoral register, which is compiled based on the personnel lists and the matriculation register. If you request the postal ballot and are not on the electoral roll, the electoral office will contact you. If you have any questions regarding the electoral roll or eligibility to vote, please contact the electoral office.

Once your application has been received, the electoral office will send you the postal ballot with a prepaid envelope, starting in early July. The postal ballots must be submitted to the electoral office by the election day (14 July 2020). Please return your postal ballot as soon as possible, as postal delivery may currently be delayed. The return is free of charge.
