7th year of the master's programme Accounting and Auditing started

The 7th year of the joint master's programme in Accounting and Auditing of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU) started on 2nd May, 2019.

The 24 accepted students were invited to a kick-off at the Schlosshotel Walberberg in Bornheim. In addition to a presentation of the study contents by the course directors Prof. Dr. Peter Kajüter (WWU) and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pellens (RUB), the kick-off provided the students with an opportunity to get to know each other. Highlight of the kick-off event was a discussion, which was opened by Mrs. Melanie Sack (member of the managing board of the Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer(IDW), Düsseldorf) on "Future challenges for the auditing profession". Afterwards, the students discussed current developments in accounting and auditing with Mrs. Sack, representatives of the Big Four auditing companies and the course directors.
The master's programme in "Accounting and Auditing" adresses Bachelor's students who aspire a career as an auditor. Over the course of 3.5 years study time is from May to October and working time in auditing practice from November to April. This system allows to combine a master study with professional practice. Thus scientific training and occupational qualification take place simultaneously, making it possible to apply theoretical concepts and method knowledge directly to practice, reports Professor Dr. Bernhard Pellens.

The master course thouroughly prepares the students for their future occupation in the audit examination sector. Professors from the two universities, as well as lecturers from the auditing practice, teach necessary knowledge while considering recent scientific work. Knowledge transfer concentrates on the topics of applied business administration, business law, tax law, accounting and auditing. Due to the recognition of the Master's programme in accordance with § 8a WPO, some of the examination results are credited in the subsequent audit examination facilitating the subsequent professional examination.
